Why i avoid hospitality REITs - Immature thinking perhaps?

                                    

A few people asked me how come i dont buy Hospitality Reits. They are of big names and do relatively ok. My portfolio mainly consist of retail, industrial and commercial spaces. The only lacking one is hospitality. Why??? The thing with hospitality reit is that the business nature is very volatile. It is very much affected by number of tourist coming to Singapore or to the destination where the REIT has properties in.

I still remember when i was growing up, there were many new disease,virus, illness. The one that hit us most badly was the SARs. That was bad. It did the economy in. Hotels could only depend on domestic demands which was next to nothing, especially in Singapore. I had my first staycation then because hotel room price was so low, it became affordable with my meagre NS pay. Recent Singapore has been quite unfortunate. Haze always comes around during this period of time which the F1 will start. The F1 is supposed to be the blockbuster of Singapore's tourism effort. Unfortunately the haze doesnt play ball. The organiser claimed demands for the F1 ticket were not affected by the Haze, but i think without the Haze, it could have been better.

 Then now it is Zika. Several countries already issued travel warnings to Singapore, especially for pregnant ladies or females intending to conceive. Normally it is us who issue travel warnings. Things feel abit weird now that we are at the receiving end. Let's see if Zika will affect the F1 receipts this time and i do hope we can control the spread of Zika fast! To say the truth, i really dont think theres much Singapore can offer as a tourist spot. Maybe for a stopover spot, but not for a final destination. And now with all this haze and viruses, it is going to be worse. Being the skeptical me , that's why i avoid this all together which may not be a smart move because i could have looked at those REITs with properties overseas. True, but just not for me.

And now, let's fight mozzies and keep them away!
